Michelle Malkin has a post on her blog here about the Shamnesty piecemeal attempts of Dick Durbin and associates with the DREAM Act.
As Michelle notes:
“…the Dream Act would repeal a clearly worded provision in the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA)”
That provision would be:
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State (or a political subdivision) for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit (in no less an amount, duration, and scope) without regard to whether the citizen or national is such a resident.
Remember, the recent Gallup poll on dealing with illegal immigration I posted on here yesterday. I don’t think giving away the farm is what participants in that poll had in mind.
Why on earth, logically speaking, would you give special in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens, when you deny it to native-born and naturalized citizens? What a slap in the face from the Shamnest front.
