I think TNR knew it was fiction from the start and published to provide both red meat for the foamers and a poke in the eye for hawks. If they thought the atrocities (such as they are) were real, they would have called for blood. This is the first bad report from the war on terror that did not have a call for investigations, resignations, or pull out. TNR did not call for them because they knew there was no evidence-it was a fiction from the beginning and they sold it as truth. I don’t think he lied to TNR.
