Romney is top money getter in TN, maybe.

According to a Knoxville News Sentinel article on a Center for Responsive Politics review, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has raised the most money of the over $1,000,000 dollars raised, thus far, in Tennessee, with $380,367.  Leading the Democrats in Tennessee is John Edwards with $183,804.

Of course, this doesn’t take into account what Fred Thompson, the unannounced Republican presidential candidate has raised with his “testing the waters” campaign.

Gray Sasser, Chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party, said Thompson may well have raised over $1 mllion dollars.  Thompson is not required to report anything yet and the campaign is not releasing any numbers.  But, some Republicans say that Thompson raised in the neighborhood of $700,000 at one fundraiser earlier this month.

Robin Smith, Vice-Chair of the Tennessee Republican Party says, “I personally don’t know the numbers, but I do know Fred Thompson has support that is a mile wide and a mile deep in Tennessee.”

The Knoxville News Sentinel provides a breakdown for the other candidates in the article too:

Democrat Barack Obama, $163,658; Republican John McCain, $117,592; Democrat Bill Richardson $72,400; Republican Rudy Giuliani, $59,775; Republican Mike Huckabee, $35,318; Democrat Hillary Clinton, $28,365; Republican Ron Paul, $22,567; Democrat Christopher Dodd, $14,950; Republican Tom Tancredo, $9,190; and Democrat Joe Biden, $2,600.
